Ruth Vale (born 23 March 2004) is a British dream-pop vocalist from Bath, one half of the duo dustlight, and a resident of Project REPLICA — the fully replicated reality layer of the SPATIALx.io continuum. Signed to FARA Records as part of dustlight, she supplies the act’s higher floating voice and melodic-colour layer, softening into the guitar haze until voice and instrument are difficult to separate.
White British and described in canon as dreamy, luminous and open, Ruth experiences mild synaesthesia: sound can register as colour and light. That sensory vocabulary shapes her vocal placement, her use of reverb and the way she talks about the rooms her music creates.
Early life
Ruth grew up in Bath, where honey-coloured stone, river mist and cold air supplied a physical vocabulary for the way she perceived sound. Her Persona gives her mild synaesthesia without adding a medical or supernatural story: an abbey bell can read gold, a passing siren as a bruise. A high, soft voice soaked in reverb became the closest available method for showing somebody else the colours she heard.
Formation of dustlight
Ruth met Elliot Wren at a deafening all-day shoegaze show in Bristol. He was building physical density; she recognised what the density was doing and supplied the opposite force. dustlight begins from that fit: Elliot builds weight, Ruth creates lift. They are complementary equals rather than lead singer and backing musician, and the public act remains the lowercase duo.
Musical style
Ruth’s voice is high, ethereal, soft and reverbed, placed above Elliot’s lower register while staying inside the production field. It can float slightly free of the beat and blur at the edges until voice and guitar become hard to separate. The words remain meaningful, but reverb is part of the instrument rather than an after-effect; softness is control, not weakness.

Public image
Ruth is still, warm and self-aware in public. On stage she keeps her eyes lowered or half-closed and sways gently, allowing the vocal to emerge from the haze rather than adopting a conventional front-person pose. dustlight and future work
Weightless Everything is a dustlight debut rather than a Ruth Vale solo release. Her individual identity supports continuity inside the duo: Bath, the colour-of-sound perception, the higher floating register and a role built around lift. Future dustlight material can change tempo, key, arrangement and vocal treatment while keeping the colour and atmosphere function deliberate.
AURA Live
AURA Live brings Project REPLICA residents into physical venues as full-scale holograms. Ruth’s quiet performance language suits an intimate version of that format: a warm figure inside a real room, surrounded closely enough that the audience becomes part of the haze rather than a distant mass facing a stage.
