SLOW DELAY (Group)
South Shields & Newcastle upon Tyne, UK · MARSDEN / Callum Reay, AVEN / Erin Charlton · formed 2024–2025 (working canon) · FARA Records
Full Bio / WikiSLOW DELAY are MARSDEN and AVEN, an equal North East electronic two-piece built around the art of withholding. His patient architecture and low spoken register give her melodic lift somewhere to earn its arrival, turning authorship, credit and recognition into physical tension.
The first unreleased session was meant to end after AVEN's favour vocal. A second session became necessary because MARSDEN had left too much unresolved and AVEN heard a melody that required more patience than her usual work. They named the act only after recognising that delay itself was their shared instrument.
MARSDEN supplies structural/electronic architecture and low near-spoken verse; AVEN supplies topline, lead vocal colour and melodic lift.
MARSDEN protects the wait; AVEN protects the eventual opening. He resists premature climax, she resists restraint becoming avoidance.
Begin with a long structural map and one small melodic destination. Strip elements until the wait is active; introduce AVEN's full vocal colour only when the emotional argument can carry it.
Two figures separated by deliberate space, with coastal field sound and light arriving in slow stages. The final lift reaches both rather than turning AVEN into the visual star.
Add Souter/Marsden Bay weather, Newcastle concrete, foghorn distance, wet transit glass and credit-sheet paper textures; no generic AI interface.
What they are
SLOW DELAY is an openly AI-realised Group from FARA Records, the AI-native label of SPATIALx. Its lyrics, emotional brief, arrangements and production are shaped by human writers and directors; rendered takes are curated, re-prompted, edited and mastered to final approval. Every member remains a distinct identity inside the shared Group.
