THE HOURGLASS SOCIETY (Group)

Full Bio / WikiTHE HOURGLASS SOCIETY are a London art collective whose line-up changes with the work. Samuel and Milly D form its intimate spoken-and-memory core; Daniel Aitkens and Jenifer Kilocwski expand that system into theatrical baritone and soprano scale. Time, decay and the room itself become part of the cast.
Daniel convened a small black-box exercise about time leaking through a room. Samuel supplied the close human voice and Milly D the distant return; that two-person version became the first complete form. Jenifer joined when the piece was rebuilt at operatic scale, with Daniel entering as baritone/director character. The Society became the name for the expandable system rather than one fixed cast on every track.
Daniel concept/director baritone; Jenifer classical soprano; Samuel grounded spoken-word centre; Milly D airy memory voice.
Daniel defines the staging problem, Samuel keeps it human-scale, Milly D makes memory spatial and Jenifer tests how much exact classical line the decaying room can hold. Participation is chosen by what the work requires.
Start with duration, room and cast configuration before genre. Record a close grounded layer, a distant memory layer and, when required, larger theatrical registers without implying that more voices are an improvement.
Present two-voice and four-voice configurations as equal canonical modes. A handless clock or measured drip controls scene changes; no horror jump-scares or medical staging.
Add rehearsal markings, water shadows, archive boxes, worn stage rope and dignified black-box portraiture; separate the intimate and opera-scale image families clearly.
What they are
