VANCE

Seattle, Washington — Central District · FARA Records

Full Bio / Wiki
VANCE is a Seattle modern-funk artist and bandleader built around a simple conviction: the groove and the paperwork belong in the same conversation. In his working biography he is Quincy Amari Vance, raised in the Central District, where Black Seattle music history and the city's technology boom have existed in uncomfortable proximity for his entire life.

His grandmother's house is the origin point of that story — where the records lived and where money was discussed at the kitchen table without euphemism. Funk wasn't presented to him as retro style; it was music that made people move, made by working musicians, tied to publishing, royalties, contracts and families. A second formative story is a family friend who had played on records people still recognised but couldn't point to meaningful money returning from — a fact that landed before VANCE was old enough to describe the economics cleanly, so he learned bass and learned to read the small print at roughly the same emotional speed.

The bass became his centre because it makes his philosophy physical: not decoration beneath the singer, but the thing holding the room together. He plays while he sings, punctuates rather than overuses slap, and would rather the crowd take half the hook off him than watch him behave like the only person onstage who matters. His vocal sits between singing and rap — playful, conversational, sharply timed, always in the pocket — and he can turn a royalty statement into a punchline without making the issue small.

He is warm onstage, quick with jokes, and completely unembarrassed about talking about money — not luxury, not status, but who got paid, who didn't, and whether the culture a city advertises has materially supported the people who made it. Did It Hit is his first release and the clearest statement of that thesis, but VANCE is built to grow beyond it — future records can examine contracts, masters, touring economics, inheritance, credit and the simple pleasure of a great band locking into the same pocket.

What they are

VANCE is an AI-realised act from FARA Records — Fully Artificial, Radically Authentic, the AI-native label of SPATIALx. The lyrics, emotional brief, arrangement and production behind every act on the label come from human writers and directors. Suno renders the vocal and musical takes from there, and the results are handed back to be curated, re-prompted, edited and mastered until they say exactly what they were built to say. We don't hide any of it — the seams are part of the art. This isn't AI filler standing in for a band. It's real songwriting, real direction, and a voice that didn't exist before.
