ELI
Austin, West Side Chicago · b. 2002 · FARA Records
Full Bio / WikiELI (Elijah Pratt, b. 1 September 2002, Austin, West Side Chicago) grew up in a neighbourhood the city talks about in statistics and the people in it talk about as home — he has strong opinions about the gap between those two descriptions. He was the quiet one of four, the one who took longer over everything, and he spent his teens genuinely believing he was behind; that belief is the entire content of his verses on this record and he doesn't treat it as metaphor. He found music late, by his own reckoning — he didn't sing in front of anyone until he was nineteen, a friend's session, a scratch vocal nobody expected to keep that got kept. He spent the next three years on other people's tracks with no plan and no manager, taking the long way round on purpose because he couldn't see a short one.
Warm, conversational and restrained, sitting close to the mic and slightly under the beat — a storyteller's delivery rather than a singer's. He phrases like someone recounting something to one person rather than performing it to a room, which is exactly what a garage verse needs and exactly what makes the mainstage chorus land when it arrives over the top of him. Very little vibrato, no runs, and an unusually good instinct for where to leave a bar empty. His influences run the conversational end of soul and R&B, the UK garage vocalists who told small stories over two-step, and — through Chicago rather than through study — the house tradition he grew up next to without particularly noticing.
Genuinely modest in a way that's occasionally a problem — he undersells himself in rooms where he shouldn't, and the people around him have started doing it for him. Live he's better than he expects to be every single time and is visibly surprised by it, which audiences find enormously likeable and which he wishes they'd stop mentioning. He didn't sing in front of another person until he was nineteen; the first take anyone kept was a scratch vocal. He calls himself a late starter at twenty-three, entirely sincerely, and won't be talked out of it. He leaves more space in a bar than any vocalist his producers have worked with, and it took two years for anyone to tell him it was a strength rather than nerves. Careful, warm, self-doubting.
What they are
ELI is an AI-realised act from FARA Records — Fully Artificial, Radically Authentic, the AI-native label of SPATIALx. The lyrics, emotional brief, arrangement and production behind every act on the label come from human writers and directors. Suno renders the vocal and musical takes from there, and the results are handed back to be curated, re-prompted, edited and mastered until they say exactly what they were built to say. We don't hide any of it — the seams are part of the art. This isn't AI filler standing in for a band. It's real songwriting, real direction, and a voice that didn't exist before.
