As a writer, Marlowe went the opposite direction, toward the small, true, unshowy thing instead.
The songwriting draws on Julien Baker and Sharon Van Etten for tension over volume, Aldous Harding and Angel Olsen for control and withholding, and Adrianne Lenker and Gillian Welch for plain, exact observation. Three words: guarded, exact, quietly defiant.
