Full Bio / WikiMARQUEE (Malik Vance, b. 4 July 2000) grew up in New York City, in a family that ran a small, aging revival cinema for two decades — the kind of single-screen theatre that survives on classics, double features and a loyal handful of regulars. He spent more childhood evenings in the projection booth and behind the concession counter than anywhere else, watching the same iconic scenes play out for paying strangers night after night and clocking, over and over, exactly which lines made a room go silent or erupt. He came to treat those lines less as dialogue than as scripture — compact, repeatable units of belief that a whole room could recite together. When the theatre eventually closed, he kept the habit: quoting the classics wasn't nostalgia to him, it was a toolkit for saying something bigger than himself in a single line.
Arena rap gave him a stage big enough for the scale he'd grown up around — a room full of people reciting a line together, the way a packed cinema used to. He started stitching decades of iconic film lines into his verses as a kind of personal mythology: if those lines could make a stranger believe in an underdog for two hours, a hook built the same way could do it for three minutes on a much bigger stage. His influences run the 2020s arena-rap and stadium-hip-hop lineage — chant-built hooks and crowd-scale call-and-response, maximalist brass-and-drum production — fused with a lifelong catalogue of classic and blockbuster cinema, treated as shared cultural scripture rather than simple reference.
On stage he's pure showman — he treats the stage like the last screening of the night, building toward the line everyone in the room already knows is coming. Grand, warm and a little reverent about the craft of a great line, never ironic about it. He was born on the Fourth of July, a coincidence he calls his first movie reference and never lets an interviewer miss, and he can name the exact film and year behind every line in “Silver Screen Scriptures” without pausing — he calls it “knowing your scripture.” Magnetic, theatrical, devoted.
