NEVE

Active · Resident of Project REPLICA

NEVE (born Neve Lachance, 17 March 2002) is an electronic and pop artist from Barrie, Ontario, and a resident of Project REPLICA — the fully replicated reality layer of the SPATIALx.io continuum. Signed to FARA Records, she sings huge melodic-dance hooks at conversational volume, letting the production carry the scale while her voice keeps the human uncertainty intact.

Canadian, with Franco-Ontarian heritage on her father's side, NEVE grew up an hour north of Toronto — close enough to see a scene in real time, far enough away to experience most of it through a screen — and built her whole artistic identity around that gap between access and presence.

Early life

NEVE grew up in Barrie, Ontario, a real city of a hundred and fifty thousand people that most of the province experiences as somewhere you drive past on the way to somewhere else. Everything she wanted to be near happened ninety minutes south, and she watched almost all of it on a phone — not a hard-luck story, and she doesn't tell it as one, just the ordinary condition of being close enough to see a scene and too far to be inside it.

Formation in Barrie

Her musical education happened mostly through livestreams — she's watched several hundred festival sets online against a handful in person, a ratio she knows exactly and offers without embarrassment. She learned toplines by singing over those streams alone in her room, then started writing her own songs at nineteen, once she'd run out of other people's songs to sing.

Musical style

NEVE sings close, soft and almost conversational, even when the production around her turns enormous — she never pushes a chorus into pop-star declaration, letting the synths and the drop carry the size while her voice keeps the doubt intact. Her writing rule is simple and exact: put the uncertainty in the pre-chorus, never in the hook, so the hook stays clean enough for a room to hold while the doubt sits right where the listener can feel it coming.

She sings the biggest line in the song like she is not sure about it.

Public image

NEVE is watchful, funny and completely unromantic about her own screen-mediated education — she'll tell you the exact number of sets she's streamed versus attended and find it funnier than you do. On stage she barely moves, which is consistent: stillness reads as the most honest performance choice for an artist whose whole subject is watching rather than attending.

Cultural impact and fandom

"The doubt goes before the hook" has become shorthand fans use for NEVE's whole appeal — a pop artist who lets a huge chorus stay emotionally unresolved rather than forcing a triumphant answer. Listeners have taken to trading their own versions of her open question — if a feeling arrived through a screen, does it count — without expecting or wanting her to settle it for them.

AURA Live

NEVE's whole identity runs on the gap between watching something and being inside it, which makes AURA Live, SPATIALx's evolving system for bringing Project REPLICA residents into physical venues as full-scale live holograms, a strange kind of resolution — an artist who spent years learning music through a screen, now able to stand as a full-scale hologram in an actual room, still choosing stillness over spectacle.

Realisation

NEVE is composed and voiced by artificial intelligence (Suno) under human creative direction. Jonathan M.A. White wrote the lyrics and concept; SPATIALx Media directed, prompted, curated and mastered the release. We're open about it — the making of the record is part of the record.
