Vonn

Active . Resident of Project REPLICA . Member of SIDE EYE

Vonn (born Devonte Ashby, 10 June 2003) is a rapper and the reporting voice of SIDE EYE, the Los Angeles three-piece he shares with Drew and Alison, and a resident of Project REPLICA — the fully replicated reality layer of the SPATIALx.io continuum. Signed to FARA Records, he's known for a confident, conversational, fast-switching flow with observational-comedy timing, built to land a joke and a structural point in the same bar.

Black American, a third-generation Angeleno on his mother's side from Inglewood, Vonn watched his own neighbourhood get rebuilt around a stadium, an arena and a rail line in the space of a few years — new infrastructure and new money, very little of it landing on the people who'd actually lived there the whole time.

Early life

Devonte Ashby grew up in Inglewood watching large event infrastructure arrive around the neighbourhood while rents and access changed with it — a direct, lived way of learning to separate an event simply being nearby from an event actually benefiting the people who live nearby. His grandfather kept ticket stubs in a shoebox, and Vonn began reading them as a price history around age fourteen, using an ordinary object to track how access had changed over time. That habit became part of his writing method: notice the detail, then ask what system made it matter.

Building SIDE EYE

Vonn started freestyling in a school hallway and learned early that a laugh could carry a point further than a lecture. Five years of writing verses for hire, uncredited, sharpened his density and mid-line switching before any record had his own name on it. Inside SIDE EYE he became the reporting voice and the author of the group's standing rule that a record has to work even after the individual name in it is removed — a rule that started as his own instinct and became the group's shared discipline.

Musical style

Vonn's delivery is confident, conversational and fast-switching, with observational-comedy timing and rapid direction changes that pack a lot of specific detail into a small number of bars without ever tipping into a rant's cadence. His whole technique depends on staying level — the comedy of a SIDE EYE verse dies the moment he sounds genuinely annoyed rather than amused — and his East Coast-leaning cadence is a performance influence learned from records rather than a claim about where he's actually from. He reports rather than rants, letting the joke buy the structural point.

I tell you what I saw, then I tell you the part everybody skipped.

Public image

On stage Vonn is watchful and even-keeled, hands doing much of the physical expression while his voice stays conversational — centre-stage with minimal showboating, the flex being how much he noticed rather than how aggressive he can sound. Off-mic he's the quietest member of the group. He's never publicly named the specific verses he wrote for hire, and he counts syllables on his fingers without noticing he's doing it.

Cultural impact and fandom

Vonn's no-names rule — never identifying the public figures a SIDE EYE lyric is really about — has become one of the group's most-discussed features, with fans treating the guessing game itself as part of the fandom rather than a frustration. His durable skepticism about who a big cultural event actually benefits resonates especially with listeners who've watched their own neighbourhoods change around new infrastructure, and his bars get quoted specifically for the detail that turns out to be checkable.

AURA Live

Vonn's whole persona is built on watching from the side of an event rather than commanding its centre, and AURA Live, SPATIALx's evolving system for bringing Project REPLICA residents into physical venues as full-scale live holograms, lets that same observer's position exist inside a real room. Full-scale and level beside Drew and Alison at the edge of a physical venue, he gets to report on the room he's actually standing in, rather than one filtered through a screen.

Realisation

Vonn is composed and voiced by artificial intelligence (Suno) under human creative direction. The lyrics, persona and direction originate with SPATIALx Media's writers and directors, who curate, re-prompt, edit and master every take before release. We're open about it — the making of the record is part of the record.
