Zay Mercer

Full Bio / WikiZay Mercer (Isaiah Mercer, b. 13 March 2003) grew up in New York City and was, by his own account, very good at school — he could sit still, produce the answer being asked for, and be praised for it. Around nineteen he started asking a harder question: whether that skill had sometimes been mistaken for independent thought.
He's careful not to turn that realisation into hostility toward any individual teacher; most, he says, were doing their best inside a structure they didn't design. His anger is aimed at recitation without understanding, and at any system that rewards silence simply because silence is easy to manage. Music entered through battle rap, then books, and the theological turn came through John 1 and the idea of the Word — if creation is framed through speech and people are made in that image, Zay became preoccupied with what human language actually does to identity, consent and self-description.
He now splits his time between New York and London, a movement that matters operationally to Plane Fact, the duo he forms in equal partnership with Selah, without erasing New York as the origin of his cadence, his intellectual posture, and his public-school story. On record he never shouts as a default performance device: he writes long lines and complete ideas, and lets a calm, controlled voice force the listener to deal with the sentence itself rather than react to volume.
Quiet, exacting, unshakeable.
What they are
Zay Mercer is an AI-realised act from FARA Records — Fully Artificial, Radically Authentic, the AI-native label of SPATIALx. The lyrics, emotional brief, arrangement and production behind every act on the label come from human writers and directors. Suno renders the vocal and musical takes from there, and the results are handed back to be curated, re-prompted, edited and mastered until they say exactly what they were built to say. We don't hide any of it — the seams are part of the art. This isn't AI filler standing in for a band. It's real songwriting, real direction, and a voice that didn't exist before.
