Zeke Verrett

Active . Resident of Project REPLICA

Zeke Verrett (born 23 April 1993) is a blues artist from Detroit, and a resident of Project REPLICA — the fully replicated reality layer of the SPATIALx.io continuum. Signed to FARA Records, he plays the oldest music in the house on an open-D acoustic guitar with a bottleneck slide, a hypnotic repeating riff and loose human timing carrying every line.

Black American and Detroit-raised, Zeke Verrett is the Delta half of the shared BLUESSTEP project — the analogue foundation Quan Verrett's modern rap voice is built to sit against.

Early life

Zeke Verrett grew up in Detroit, a city where Black American musical traditions and machines have repeatedly met rather than remained separate, and where the guitar that travelled north has always belonged in the same room as the drum machines invented there. He was the one who kept the oldest sound in the house alive — open D tuning, bottleneck slide, a repeating riff played until it felt less like a part than a place to stand.

Formation of BLUESSTEP

Zeke's musical choice was deliberately old-form without turning into retro costume — in a city associated worldwide with drum machines and electronic invention, he turned toward the guitar his family carried north instead. His value in the collaboration with Quan was never nostalgia; it was the belief that an old form could stay structurally strong enough to carry a current story without being dressed up as history. With Quan, he makes BLUESSTEP: Delta blues, conscious rap, and one sub-bass drop used exactly once, arriving only after Zeke's acoustic world has already held the floor.

Musical style

Zeke Verrett sings the blues in strict AAB form — a line states, repeats, then turns — against his own open-D acoustic guitar, the slide answering him between vocal lines. His vocal is raw and close, loose in its timing in a way that never gets smoothed over, and the surrounding texture stays dusty and mono-room rather than polished. Repetition functions as pressure and story structure for him rather than filler; the guitar figure isn't decoration around the vocal; it's a second voice holding up its end of the conversation.

If the line can stand there with one guitar, anything you add after has to earn its place.

Public image

On stage, Zeke Verrett is still and unhurried — seated with the guitar is his natural posture, and he trusts that the part is already moving without needing him to move more than the song does. His public voice is plain, warm and patient, with short-to-medium answers and no mystic-old-bluesman affectation despite the vintage form he plays in. Warm, weathered and grounding, he holds the floor long enough for the newer layer around him to mean something when it finally arrives.

Cultural impact and fandom

Zeke Verrett's listeners are drawn to the same patience he plays with — an audience that has taken an interest in the AAB blues form itself, trading recordings of the way a single line turns on its third pass. He's known for discussing the collaboration with Quan Verrett in terms of contrast and structure rather than personal backstory, treating BLUESSTEP as a musical argument about old and new.

AURA Live

Project REPLICA suits a musician whose whole authority comes from stillness rather than spectacle. AURA Live, SPATIALx's evolving system for bringing Project REPLICA residents into physical venues as full-scale live holograms, gives Zeke Verrett's seated, unhurried presence a way to hold a physical room the same way he holds a track — patiently, and without needing to move more than the song does. For an artist built on being the floor everything else stands on, a real room to occupy is simply an extension of that same stillness.

Realisation

Zeke Verrett is composed and voiced by artificial intelligence (Suno) under human creative direction. The lyrics, persona and direction originate with SPATIALx Media's writers and directors, who curate, re-prompt, edit and master every take before release. We're open about it — the making of the record is part of the record.
