A jacket still on the chair. A phone checked out of habit before sleep.
MUSIC TRACK STORY
Still Breathing You is the debut single from lowlight — a song that refuses to resolve, because the situation it describes hasn't resolved either. Minimal, spacious production at 62 BPM half-time in F# minor built almost entirely from what it leaves out: negative space doing as much emotional work as anything sung. Section 1 sits in small, specific, unglamorous detail — the physical residue of someone who's gone. Section 2 admits the situation plainly (“I know what this is, I'm not confused about it”) while confessing an inability to actually leave it behind: “leaving means I stop, and I can't stop.”
Music Track Story
The Break is the song's rawest moment — chest voice giving way to falsetto exactly on the word “still,” the body catching up to what it's already been saying: “I wake up and you're gone, I know you're gone… I'm still — breathing you — even now, still breathing you.” The Bridge strips everything back to its plainest form: “I don't need it to make sense anymore, I just know I'm still here.”
The Final Section returns to the opening image — the jacket, the chair — but lands on a small, discovered thought rather than a resolution: “I think that's just what breathing is.” “Still breathing you” isn't reframed as something to get over; it's simply what continuing to live looks like right now. The outro strips one instrument at a time until only sub-bass is left, and the closing line makes the refusal explicit: the situation is still the situation.
