VANGUARD
Chicago, IL → Fullerton, CA · b. 1999 · FARA Records
Full Bio / WikiVANGUARD (Devon Marsh, b. 12 May 1999) grew up on the same stretch of Chicago's South Side as Oracle's family, a few years older and already the kid who could get a whole room chanting something back at him — church call-and-response, block-party hype, whatever was in front of him. His family made the same move to Fullerton, California that Oracle's did, and the two reconnected there as young adults. Where Oracle absorbed film and fiction, Devon absorbed rooms — crowd energy, the physics of a hook big enough to survive a stadium PA system.
He came up leading chants before he ever wrote a verse — church, sports bars, block parties. When Oracle brought him the dense, sci-fi-stacked verses of “Script Written,” his instinct was immediate: build the hook big enough to survive a stadium. The duo's whole architecture — call-and-response, crowd-layered stacking, unison gang vocals — grew out of that instinct. His influences run the same 2020s arena-rap and stadium-hip-hop lineage as Oracle, approached from the crowd-leader side — call-and-response architecture, chant-built hooks, maximalist brass-and-drum production built to fill a stadium PA rather than headphones.
On stage he's the front of the crowd — big, confident and physically commanding without ever tipping into aggression; a natural chant-leader who makes ten thousand strangers feel like one room. Where Oracle is cerebral and dense, Vanguard is immediate and communal — the arena half of the duo. He calls himself “the amplifier,” and admits he can't explain the sci-fi references Oracle writes without being told first — he leads the chant, Oracle owns the footnotes. Commanding, warm, magnetic.
What they are
VANGUARD is an AI-realised act from FARA Records — Fully Artificial, Radically Authentic, the AI-native label of SPATIALx. The lyrics, emotional brief, arrangement and production behind every act on the label come from human writers and directors. Suno renders the vocal and musical takes from there, and the results are handed back to be curated, re-prompted, edited and mastered until they say exactly what they were built to say. We don't hide any of it — the seams are part of the art. This isn't AI filler standing in for a band. It's real songwriting, real direction, and a voice that didn't exist before.
