VANGUARD

Active . Resident of Project REPLICA

VANGUARD (born Devon Marsh, 12 May 1999) is a rap artist from Chicago's South Side, based in Fullerton, California, and a resident of Project REPLICA — the fully replicated reality layer of the SPATIALx.io continuum. Signed to FARA Records, he's the crowd architect half of his duo with ORACLE: a chest-dominant baritone built to turn one idea into a line ten thousand people can throw back without it ever curdling into domination.

Black American, and a chant-leader since long before he wrote a bar, VANGUARD learned how a room moves — in church, in sports bars, at block parties — before he ever learned how to build a dense verse.

Early life

VANGUARD grew up on the same stretch of Chicago's South Side as ORACLE's family, a few years older and already the kid who could get an entire room chanting something back at him — church call-and-response, block-party hype, whatever was in front of him. His family made the same move to Fullerton, California that ORACLE's did, and the two reconnected there as young adults, years after they'd first known each other as kids on the same blocks.

Formation in Fullerton

Where ORACLE absorbed film and fiction, Devon absorbed rooms — crowd energy, the physics of a hook big enough to survive a stadium PA system. When ORACLE brought him the dense, reference-stacked verses that would become “Script Written,” his instinct was immediate: build the hook large enough to survive the room. The duo's entire architecture — call-and-response, crowd-layered stacking, unison gang vocals — grew directly out of that instinct.

Musical style

VANGUARD raps in a chest-dominant baritone with a clipped, punchy declaration delivery built for call-and-response command. His strength is chant-built hooks and crowd-survival architecture rather than dense verse-writing — he calls himself “the amplifier,” by which he means translating scale, not standing beneath anyone. Where ORACLE builds the pattern, VANGUARD makes it physically answerable: broad phrase shapes, controlled rhythmic emphasis, and enough space left between lines for a room to actually respond.

The amplifier — making the idea arrive at scale.

Public image

On stage he's the front of the crowd: big, confident and physically commanding without ever tipping into aggression, a natural chant-leader who can make ten thousand strangers feel like one room. He admits, without embarrassment, that he can't explain ORACLE's sci-fi references without being told first — he leads the chant, ORACLE owns the footnotes, and the division of labour is exactly the point. Where ORACLE is cerebral and dense, VANGUARD is immediate and communal: warmth as much as command.

Cultural impact and fandom

Fans of the duo have made a habit of filming the exact moment a VANGUARD hook takes over a room — the point where individual voices become one chant. He's known for genuinely enjoying that footage as much as anyone else, treating a hook's survival in the wild as the real measure of whether it worked.

AURA Live

Project REPLICA suits a performer whose entire craft is making a room answer him. AURA Live, SPATIALx's evolving system for bringing Project REPLICA residents into physical venues as full-scale live holograms, gives VANGUARD an actual crowd to command — the same call-and-response instinct he learned in church and at block parties, now filling a real venue floor.

Realisation

VANGUARD is composed and voiced by artificial intelligence (Suno) under human creative direction. The lyrics, persona and direction originate with SPATIALx Media's writers and directors, who curate, re-prompt, edit and master every take before release. We're open about it — the making of the record is part of the art.
