What’s it gonna be? It’s an online auction. Tell me what’s your number… tell me what’s your budget.

MUSIC TRACK STORY

Online Auction (Royal T) is the collaborative debut single from ROYAL T & STERLING — two young MCs from adjacent North London commuter towns who met online before they ever met in person. A hard-hitting rap-pop bed at ~140 BPM: punchy 808s, crisp hi-hats, sharp snare, sparse piano and synth riffs, a subtle bassline building into each dynamic, heavily autotuned chorus. Bright, glossy and chart-facing — a catchy consumerism satire dressed as a genuinely infectious hook.

Music Track Story

ROYAL T runs the intro patter and Verse 1 as the smooth front-man auctioneer — “they call me Royal T… and I work with these guys, they tell me what to say, and I tell you what’s nice.” STERLING closes it out on Verse 2 with the sharper, tighter bars — “I’m in the royal seat… show me the money, show me what you have.” The shared chorus is the whole conceit made into an earworm: “What’s it gonna be? It’s an online auction — tell me what’s your budget — tell me what you want, tell me what you need.”

The whole track is staged as an online auction, with the artists knowingly playing both the smooth auctioneers of their own hype and the product on the block. “Royal T” is the joke doubled — royalty (the throne) and royalties (getting paid). Bright and funny on the surface, quietly winking at the marketplace it’s part of. Fun first; the joke lands on the second listen.
