Smiling suit, ink still wet — radio spinning, but the check never met.

MUSIC TRACK STORY

We Recoup (Tokenise) is the debut single from The Recoup — three Compton artists and peers, each carrying a different piece of the same reckoning with the music industry's old economics, over one heavy, dark-piano-and-rolling-bass West Coast beat at ~92 BPM. 96 Grand, who lived the old exploitative deal firsthand, opens by naming it plainly. Young Trace answers with proof: an itemised, provable accounting. 99 Keys closes the arc looking ahead — to a system with ownership built in from the first play.

Music Track Story

The hook takes the industry's own jargon and turns it into a statement of arrival: “no more 'we recoup' holdin' me up… if they hear it, I'm paid, that's law.” “Recoupment” — the clause that lets a label withhold an artist's earnings until costs are repaid — gets reclaimed and rewritten as the group's own name and thesis. 99 Keys' forward-looking verse pushes the idea further: “no gatekeeper holdin' keys, the key live inside the frequencies.”

The bridge lands the record's real definition of success: “legacy ain't plaques on a wall, legacy paid when the grandkids call.” Righteous and vindicated rather than simply angry — the specific satisfaction of hearing exploitative industry language turned back on itself, building to hard-earned, structural triumph. Three voices, three roles, one thesis: the money keeps flowing home.
